VOLUNTEER of Nov: Terry Hodges

by Alpine Summit ·

Terry was born and raised in Rockford, IL. He graduated from East High School in 1965, attended and graduated from the US Air Force Academy in 1969, received a Masters in Aeronautical & Astronautical Engineering from Purdue University in 1970, and an MBA from the University of Dayton. Later, he attended Rock Valley for an electronic technician’s degree.

Terry has been married to Pam for 40 years. Pam was his younger sister Joyce’s best friend so they had know each other for a long time. They were married in First Lutheran Church in Colorado Springs. They have 3 daughters; Jamie, Lori, and Mandy; and 5 grandchildren; Bobby, Kyle, Brittany, Allie and Chaz.

In 1976, Terry resigned his commission in the Air Force and they moved back to Rockford. After visiting several churches, they found Alpine to be the friendliest and became members in November of 1976.

He has served on the Church Council, been an usher, serves as a lay assistant, was a C & E member who then joined the choir, and is currently the chairman of the Stewardship Committee.

Outside of Alpine, Terry served as the treasurer for RALM and just recently finished a term on the board of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans as their recording secretary. He served on his condo board and is still on the finance committee.

We thank Terry for his dedication to our church, and we thank God for him…….Congratulations!

Issue 40 Christ the King & Thanksgiving This Week

The church year ends on a high note this Sunday, Nov. 22, as we celebrate “Christ the King”. We’re reminded that Jesus Christ will reign, and that He is our Heavenly King. All else will pass away, but His Kingdom will prevail. The following Sunday will begin a new church year, with the beginning of Advent.

Then, next TUESDAY, NOV. 24, we will offer two services of worship for THANKSGIVING. The first one, at 11:00 AM, will be followed by thanksgiving dinner to which we are all invited, hosted by Alpine Academy. At the 7:00 PM service we are expecting guests from our sister congregation on the west side, Washington Park Christian Church. Please help us be good hosts by your attendance, if possible, and stay for a time of fellowship. (Please note that we will not have Wednesday services.)

When we come to this time of year, it causes me to remember that it is an anniversary of my pastorate here at Alpine. Having begun my ministry here 14 years ago during the Christ the King – Thanksgiving weekend, I’ve basically doubled the amount of time I’ve spent at my previous churches. As I stated at our banquet a couple weeks ago, I now have the second-longest tenure of any Alpine pastor, after Pastor Ahnquist. So much has happened over these past 14 years, and God still has more plans for us in the future. Our call is to remain open and faithful to His guidance. I hope and pray you are with me in that venture.
