The answer from last weeks Sunday School – Who Am I? :       Maggie M.

Sunday School – Who Am I?:   I am 4 years old.  I attend Sunday School and VBS.  My favorite Bible verse is “Love One Another”.  My favorite colors are blue & green.  I like all kinds of music.  Something that people are surprised to know about me is that “I’m happy”.  When I grow up I want to be a fireman or work at a gas station.

My initials are Z.H.

Bible Verse for the week:

Let your eyes look straight ahead, fix your gaze directly before you.  Make level paths for your feet and take only ways that are firm.  Do not swerve to the right or the left; keep your foot from evil.  Proverbs 4:25-27

These were our verses from Volcano Falls Night.  When you are trying to get that hole-in-one, you have to keep your eye on the ball and find a level path (the best way) for the ball to go.  This is just like being a Christian, we need to keep our eyes on Jesus, keep our paths level & choose the right way to go (living the Christian life like Jesus).  May your eyes be on Jesus always!!

Summit 24- Church camp Sunday Service 9:30am

by Alpine Summit ·

Church Camp Sunday Service 9:30am

The church camp service is coming up on June 27, at 9:30am. This will be a wonderful opportunity to celebrate with our campers and share with their joy during the week. Campers will also speak at the 8:00 traditional service.

Looking back in my earlier days, I was a camper at a Chinese Lutheran summer camp in Hong Kong. We were told not to bring a radio or video games to the camp. I remembered the campfire, songs, and fun games with my high school friends. The most important thing was that I turned to Christ after the summer camp and became a Christian. That summer camp changed my whole life. I trust that God will use the church camp to encounter our young people in various ways.

Please remember the church camp staff, camp counselors, and all campers in your prayer. Pray also that the church camp will make a significant impact upon the lives of our younger generation.

Summit 23 – June is month for Camps & Vacations

by Alpine Summit ·

June is month for Camps & Vacations
One of Alpine’s strongest youth ministries is its church camping program.
For the past few years we’ve gone to Conference Point Center at Lake Geneva. Again, we have a good-sized group for June 20-25. Many of our youth are also assisting in leadership as junior counselors, as they’ve been campers for years.
The campers and their leaders will participate in worship on June 27 at 9:30 AM.
Also on the annual June schedule is the Northern Illinois Synod assembly at Augustana College, which is always the third weekend. We have a delegation of seven Alpiners attending. I will be serving as chair of the elections committee this year, which will include the (re)election of the bishop.
And, of course, now that school is out and summer is upon us, many folks will be taking vacations or weekend trips. We hope and pray it is a time of safe travel, healthy renewal, and enjoyment if that is in your plans. If you plan to be gone for any length of time, please remember to keep current with your pledge, as we are running close with expenses.
Helen and I are planning a memorable vacation in celebration of our 40th anniversary, from June 21 to July 16. We will be in Europe, primarily on a 12-day Baltic cruise, but with visits in other parts both before and after. Thank you for all your well-wishes. Pastor Larry Matthews, retired from St. Mark’s, will assist Vicar Ryan during my absence.

God’s Global Barnyard Update:  All of you kids from Sunday School and some adults collected $560.00 in the Fish Bank.  Good Job!!  We were able to buy one school of fish, two pigs, four goats, and five chicks (set of 10 each).  All of you helped many families in many countries.  It is better to give than to receive!!  Thanks for helping God’s Global Barnyard.

Since this newsletter goes out right after our Volcano Falls Event, I ask that you stay tuned to the next newsletter (June 25th) for all the details of what happened, and see if anyone got a hole-in-one.  Thanks to all for coming!!  (note see some details on the website next week)

We going to have the Sunday School students share there interviews for the Youth Page. These kids range from 3 years old to 5th grade.  The last ones were from the Youth Forum group.  The next newsletter will have the answer and a new student’s information.  If you have not filled out this form, please see Le Ann for one.  Let’s see how many you can guess right and find out more about our youth!

Sunday School – Who Am I?:  I am 3 years old, and I attend Fairview Preschool.  My church activities include Sunday School and VBS.  My favorite TV show is “Blue’s Clues.  Something that people are surprised to know about me is that “I am very smart.”  My initials are M.M.

Bible Verse for the week:

Give us nothing but vegetables to eat and water to drink.  Daniel 1:12b

This verse was on the website last week but I decided to keep it for this week because it is one that needs to be known.

Youth, this is one verse that parent’s should not read, memorize, or know.  But if you read Daniel 1, you would find out that if you do eat vegetables and drink water you will be healthier and better nourished than other’s that don’t.  So, please grab a veggie and enjoy.

Reach Out to a Friend

by Alpine Summit ·

Use the following e-mail letter to reach out to your friends and acquaintances.  It is an easy and friendly approach to inviting others to church.

Dear Friend,

I am sending you this letter today with the sincerest of intentions.  As you may or may not know, I have been a member of Alpine Lutheran Church in Rockford for many years now.  We are an open, all welcoming House of God.  We strive to be a community minded church, focusing on spiritual and life needs.

I would like to invite you to come to church with me and my family.  Alpine has services on Sunday mornings.  The 8:00 service is a traditional Lutheran worship service, and the 10:30 service is more contemporary, with a praise band leading us in worship.  The summer service hours are 8:00 and 9:30.

I have found great joy and peace attending Alpine Lutheran over the years, and would love to share with you what I have found.  So what do you think?  Will you come to church with me?

You could also print it out and mail it to someone.  You may want to follow up with a personal phone call.
