“Our Turn Now: Celebrating 75 Years of God’s Faithfulness”
How does someone live graciously in a world that seems so ungracious? Although social media and modern gadgets have brought many convinces and “connections” to our lives, they have also brought us closer to a world that can be harsh, judgmental, and hate filled. A world where people are more and more treated as objects and stereotypes. It can at times seem like we are closer than ever before to our community while at the same time feel like we are total strangers to the people living around us. So how are we to live? How can we stay committed to being the community that God calls us to be?
Peter’s answer to the early church was this. “But you are the ones chosen by God, chosen for the high calling of priestly work, chosen to be a holy people, God’s instruments to do God’s work and speak out for God, to tell others of the night-and-day difference God made for you—from nothing to something, from rejected to accepted (I Peter 2:9-10).” Peter’s answer is true for us today. Focus on simply being the people of God. Being a community of people who want to stand out as gracious, accepting, loving, and leading truth filled lives. To be different from the ungracious world we live in.
Besides the early church, one of the greatest examples that we have of this way of living is our own recent past. For the past 75 years, the members of Alpine have left behind a wonderful example of how to live faithful, gracious lives. Our stewardship committee in conjunction with our 75th anniversary committee would like to invite you to celebrate these stories of God’s faithfulness lived out through a dedicated community of people
Our stewardship focus this year is on Our Turn Now. We want to learn from these past examples and in turn realize that it is our turn to celebrate being God’s people by being faithful to God’s call to be a community that is dedicated to the mission of “Helping Others Come to Jesus.”
Over the next several weeks we will be examining how we can be faithful stewards to this legacy. This will conclude with a special “Celebration and Commitment Sunday” on Sunday November 12th. We will have one combined worship service at 10:00 AM on this day.
Thank you for taking up the cross and being God’s Faithful people.
